Graphic Design Internship
(course credit eligible)

The Graphic Design Internship will help refine and foster graphic design, marketing, and communication skills while working with a non-profit arts organization. Students will have the opportunity to contribute to projects that benefit the greater Akron community. Those pursuing a BA or BFA in Graphic Design, Studio Art, Arts Management, Marketing, or other related fields are encouraged to apply. The intern will primarily work with the Executive Director to design and order promotional materials for Akron Soul Train’s 2024 Artist in Residency application cycle. The intern will also assist the Programming and Exhibition Coordinator in generating fun and engaging social media posts. This internship is 8 - 10 hours a week up to 120 hours. The intern is required to work in person once a week. However, this is a flexible position, and any additional hours may be done virtually. Schedules may also be adjusted weekly to accommodate special projects and student course requirement needs.
Responsibilities:

Developing and posting social media content to increase engagement

Designing and ordering promotional materials for programs

Researching and analyzing communications, marketing, and social media trends in the arts and culture community

Creating content plans and production schedules

Marketing the gallery store and the Akron Soul Train brand

Assisting with special projects as needed
Requirements:
-
Currently enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in graphic design, marketing, visual communication, or related field. We will also consider applications from recently graduated students.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while setting and adhering to strict deadlines

Motivated with a strong work ethic and ability to be flexible

A desire to brainstorm new ideas and participate in a creative environment

Proficiency with Google Suite, social media platforms, and other design software as needed

Position Overview:
Akron Soul Train is seeking a motivated and creative Events and Programming Intern to join our team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in event planning and program development within a vibrant arts organization. The selected candidate will work closely with our Events and Programming team to execute various initiatives and contribute to the overall success of Akron Soul Train.
Responsibilities:
Assist in Event Planning:

Contribute to the planning and execution of exhibition openings, workshops, community events, and our annual benefit

Coordinate logistics, including venue arrangements, catering, and audiovisual setups and budget

Collaborate with vendors and sponsors to ensure seamless event operations.

Program Development:

Participate in brainstorming sessions for new and innovative arts programs.

Research and propose ideas for community engagement initiatives.

Assist in developing program schedules and coordinating with artists and facilitators.
Marketing and Promotion:

Support the creation of marketing materials for events and programs.

Assist in managing social media accounts and promoting events online.

Engage with the community to increase awareness of Akron Soul Train's activities.
Documentation and Evaluation:

Capture and document events through photography and video.

Gather feedback from participants and assist in evaluating program success.

Contribute to post-event reports and analysis.
Requirements:
