Anna Young
Exhibition: Life’s a F*cking Joke
May 21 - June 14, 2025
Anna Young’s residency proposal, Life’s a Fcking Joke*, focuses on expanding her personal narrative through experimental photographic techniques and unconventional materials. Trained in traditional photography, Young aims to challenge conventional norms by exploring innovative methods such as mounting photos onto wood panels, printing on transparent inkjet paper, layering with illuminated panels, adding hand-drawn illustrations, and incorporating text and collaged elements. Her goal is to use materiality to reflect her life experiences, weaving humor into her narrative and inspiring others to use art as a tool for processing personal trauma.
As a fine art photographer and arts advocate, Young holds an M.F.A. in Photography from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a B.F.A. from the University of Akron. Her multidisciplinary art practice addresses themes such as anxiety, trauma, addiction, body dysmorphia, and mortality. Through this exhibition, she seeks to push creative boundaries and foster connections between art, humor, and healing.
