Exhibition: A Portal Somewhere Good: Who's All Over There?

July 30 - August 23, 2025

Amber Bishop, is a memory worker, artist, and filmmaker based in Ohio, whose work is deeply rooted in preserving and uplifting Black stories. As a 2021 Filmmakers First Fund recipient, Amber is currently working on her first feature documentary while continuing to explore innovative artistic mediums. A recent MFA graduate in Documentary Studies and Production, she draws on her lived experience to revisit the past and reimagine the future, creating alternative sites of memory and celebrating the Black fantastical life.

Amber's latest project, A Portal  Somewhere Good: Who's All Over There?, embodies her vision of blending personal and collective memory with natural and archival elements. Through her residency at Akron Soul Train, Amber will create a memory garden—an immersive installation integrating plants, found objects, soothing audio recordings, video art, and archival photographs of Northeast Ohio’s natural spaces. This garden serves as both a resting place and a portal, inviting visitors to reflect on their relationship with nature, memory, and ancestry. By engaging with the Akron community, Amber hopes to contribute to Black ecology archives in Ohio while fostering healing and reflection for visitors.
