Amanda Margaretha
Exhibition: Diverse and Sacred Journeys
June 25 - July 19, 2025
Amanda Margaretha’s residency proposal, Diverse and Sacred Journeys, focuses on exploring identity, purpose, and the shared human experience through innovative artistic methods. By interviewing Northeast Ohio residents from diverse cultural and generational backgrounds, she seeks to understand their fears, aspirations, and sources of self-worth. This research will inform a collection of functional objects, sculptures, and window panes created using her signature technique, Raison D’être, which encases spices in resin to symbolize traditions and human experiences.
An accomplished Ohio-based installation artist, Margaretha holds a BFA (Honors) from the University of South Africa and has exhibited internationally across South Africa, the Middle East, and the United States. Known for her intricate, spice-based installations inspired by Persian rugs and American quilts, she has won multiple awards, including the Ernest Cabat Award at the 2020 Arizona Biennial. Her work highlights culture, diversity, and identity, inviting audiences to engage in a sensory and emotional exploration of what it means to belong.
