Alex Younger

Exhibition: Body Politic

October 8 - November 1, 2025

Alex Younger is a multidisciplinary artist and educator based in Northeast Ohio. Her work uses the interplay of material and language through complex techniques such as experimental printmaking and doubleweave structures to examine themes of visibility, identity, and political power.

During her Akron Soul Train residency, Alex aims to complete her latest project, Body Politic. This series will consist of interlaced, handwoven textiles that juxtapose subtle tonal variations in "black" dyes with texts addressing everyday experiences of gender-based violence. Each piece reveals hidden layers of meaning and color through the discharge printing process, making slight variations visible.

Alex holds an MFA in Fiber and Material Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has exhibited her work internationally, earning accolades such as the Gold Medal from the 16th Łodz International Tapestry Triennial and the Silver Medal from the 13th International Scythia Biennial. As an adjunct instructor at Kent State University, she continues to shape the next generation of artists while creating works that challenge cultural norms and invite introspection.
